A beautiful site at Budhanilkantha, in the heart of Kathmandu, surrounded by community forest where I intended to design a residence for a family of five. The wealthy client being a psychiatrist wanted a lavish and unique styled house that resembled her profession.

…………..

The concept is based on the brain waves that are generated on our human brain i.e. gamma, delta, alpha, beta, and theta waves that could connect to the client. The residence has been given appropriate volume and playful movements from the meaningful interpretation of the waves.

…………..

The design approach is based on the master architect Zaha Hadid’s philosophy of integrating the building with landscape, curve facades, a play of light, and smoothness. The river intersecting the site was used as a courtyard space to create a sense of calmness. The windows are playful with the use of different mullions and muntin that paralleled the uniqueness of every individual’s approach and way of thinking.

…………..

The private, and secluded, part of the house is upstairs. The lavish living room followed by the mudroom gives guests time to be in their comfort zone. The residence is beautifully integrated with the landscape from the second floor.

…………..

It is a soft interpretation of the house, in order to understand and reveal its inherent qualities.
