Society of Nepalese Architects organized a webinar series under the SONA sub-committee on architecture education by Ar. Jayandra Dhwoj Sunuwar on 16th July, 2021. Ar. Sunuwar is a lead architect at Jayandra and Partners Pvt. Ltd. since 2018 and is also a passionate educator in Nepalese architecture education. He’s been a faculty member at Himalaya College of Engineering since 2009 and a guest lecturer at IOE, Pulchowk Campus. Ar. Sunuwar graduated in BFA in Architecture and Filmmaking: 1992-1997 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, MA, USA.
The session started with a welcome note by Ar. Apil KC, General Secretary of 14th executive committee of SONA. The topic of presentation was “State of Architecture” which was a comprehensive representation of architect’s philosophy, process of working and depiction of few of his works. The presentation also raised concern on specialization of traditional architecture and sustainability. Ar. Sunuwar also shared some techniques on improving design skill useful for students while suggested academic institution to invest on
qualified teachers to improve the quality of architecture education. The session was enthusiastically attended by fellow architects, academicians and large number of young architects and students from different architecture colleges.
Followed by question and answer session, Ar. Pradeep Adhikari, chairperson of SONA sub-committee on architecture education gave his view regarding the presentation. The session ended with the comment and conclusory remarks by Ar. Rajesh Thapa, President of SONA. The webinar was moderated by Anusha Shakya, an architecture student from Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus.
